School gardening supports many aspects of the school curriculum. Also, contact with the natural world is wonderfully nurturing for children, as they make connections with the natural environment, learn about the cyclic nature of the seasons, and begin to find out more about where their food comes from. It is often the children who find it hard to engage in the classroom, who really come into their own and are able to shine in the physical activity of the outdoors.
All the children at Hollywell access the school allotment where we grow seasonal produce. This produce is then used either as part of our healthy cooking sessions, tasted in classes or even cooked up as part of our school dinners!
