Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium funding is an amount of money allocated to the school to support the needs of most disadvantaged children in order to close the attainment gap. 

Funding is based on children who are registered for Free School Meals (FSM) or have been registered for FS. within the last 6 years (Ever 6), and children that have been Looked After by the Local Authority for more than six months.   

Pupils who are eligible for the pupil premium need to be aged 4 and over, in year groups to year 11 in a maintained school. The proportion of children currently eligible at Hollywell Primary School is currently 20%.

Pupil Premium is allocated straight to our school and it is clearly identifiable. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they feel is appropriate, in a way they think will best support the focus on raising the attainment and aspirations of the most vulnerable pupils. The strategic use of pupil premium will support us in achieving our vision of helping every child to reach their full potential.

How we spend the Pupil Premium funding:

As a school we carefully consider various strategies for the best use of this funding and the individual needs of the children.

Some of the ways in which we spend the Pupil Premium grant on eligible pupils includes:

• Funding teaching assistants in KS1 and KS2
• Daily one-to-one reading
• Additional teacher to work with smaller groups providing targeted support and feedback
• Extra one-to-one, or small-group, support for children within or outside of the classroom
• Investing in resources, including targeted interventions, that boost children’s learning and CPD for staff
• Providing opportunities for curriculum enrichment, including music lessons  and school clubs
• Contributing to school trips and residential visits
• Providing daily milk
• Funding the 'Drawing and Talking'  and ELSA counselling sessions, delivered by a trained teaching assistant
• Funding additional nurture provision at break times and lunchtimes to support social skills and maintain good self-esteem
