Safeguarding

Safeguarding and the Welfare of Children – A Priority for Everyone within the School Community:

At Hollywell Primary School, we regard the safeguarding of children as our main priority. We believe that we all have the right to be happy, to be safe and to learn. We all have the responsibility to make this happen.

Hollywell Primary School fully recognises its responsibility to protect children and support pupils in its care.

Children should be safe and secure both at home and school. Hollywell Primary maintains a child protection policy and follows all the local & national guidance relating to safeguarding children. The child protection officer for the school is the Headteacher - Mrs Ellis.

All staff, have taken training in the signs of child abuse and in the procedures that should be followed in cases of abuse. It is the Headteacher’s duty to refer suspicions of abuse to Social Services and she will then work with them, and other professionals, to achieve the safety of the child(ren) concerned. A copy of the policy  can be seen below.

The School Policy for Safeguarding is updated in line with Local Authority Guidance and Regulations on an annual basis and approved by the School Trust & Governing Body.

  • All staff receive regular training around safeguarding from the local authority.
  • Designated persons receive updates to training every 2 years.
  • An Annual Safeguarding Audit is carried out by the Governors.

Further information from the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Partnership can be found here.

Should a child disclose anything that causes you to have a concern about their welfare please report it immediately to the teacher or designated person. Do not engage the child in discussion on this issue yourself.

Our main Designated Safeguarding Officer is Mrs Elizabeth Ellis and our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Officer is Mrs Tracey Harlin. These staff can be contacted via the school office or direct at: head@hollywellprimary.org

    Safeguarding Strategy

    Prevent Strategy

    What is the Prevent strategy

Prevent is a Government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes.

The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism.

How does the Prevent strategy apply to schools?

From July 2015, all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism.

This means we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views the same way we protect them from any other harm.

What we do if there is a concern

If we have a concern about a particular pupil we will follow the school’s normal safeguarding procedures, including discussing with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and Prevent Lead, Mrs Elizabeth Ellis.
